Un’altra presenza costante delle Très Riches Heures sono gli animali che popolano quasi ogni pagina del manoscritto. Animali domestici, come il levriero e i cuccioli del banchetto del Duca. Umili o nobili creature al servizio dell’uomo, come gli armenti e le greggi delle scene campestri o gli innumerevoli cavalli dei cortei e delle scene di caccia. Animali selvatici, esotici o fantastici, come cinghiali, leoni, orsi, ghepardi o il drago che appare al sommo del Mont Saint-Michel nella scena con la Festa dell’Arcangelo.
We encounter animals on practically every page of Les Très Riches Heures. Humble or noble, some are tame or farm animals (such as the greyhound and pups at the Duke’s banquet or the herds and flocks of the rural scenes, not to mention the horses of the progresses and hunt scenes). Others are wild, exotic or fantastic beasts – boars, lions, bears, cheetahs and a dragon (above Mont Saint-Michel in the scene representing the Feast of the Archangel).
